I am looking for road bike that would be affordable. Not looking for anything fancy- just a 10 speed road bike that doesn’t look alot crappy and something I can use for a couple of years without any problems.
Looking for a brand name or a place to buy.
Under $500
I agree that Giant is a good place to start — I just bought one myself. Go to the bike shops and see if they have taken anything in trade. That way you’re getting a used bike that’s been checked over by a qualified technician.

how do you switch gears on new road bikes?
Author: admin
I got about $1,200 ready to buy a bike. I plan on getting a Specialized Allez 2009, but I’m not sure what to look for. Can I do 90 miles with that bike? Is there a better option? How do you switch the gears when riding with a road bike? The guy showed me and apparently you move the brake to the right to switch it. I’m not sure. What accesories are vital to cycling? Thanks.
You can ride many miles on that bike. All of the road bikes will shift to the larger sprocket by pushing in on the brake Lever and will shift to the smaller ones by the lever just behind the brake or on the Sora shifters and below will shift using a lever at your thumb. You want the regular gear like a helmet, cycling shorts, jersey, water bottle etc. The most important thing to get is a good mirror for your glasses or one that attaches to your helmet. It’s much harder to turn around and look behind you on a road bike.

Are mountain bikes only needed for off road?
Author: admin
I cant decide if I should get a road bike or mountain bike for my budget of $650 for a bike. I live on dirt roads but I dont want to ride slow on a mountain bike when I hit the paved roads. Are mountain bike meant for much worse terrain then a dirt road? It says they are for off road but wouldnt riding on dirt roads not be off road? Im thinking if I buy a road bike I could always put knobby tires on it but I couldnt make a mountain bike any faster when I ride around town.
Road bikes are really fragile, and their carbon forks (This depends on the bike you get) can snap really easily, so it doesn’t really matter if you put knobbly tyres on or not.
mountain bikes can stand up to a lot of harsh treatment so it’s probably best to get them. Also Mountain bikes are generally all-rounders as well, whereas road bikes aren’t as versatile.
Just another thing, It would be really, really, really, really, really uncomfortable on a road bike!

What kind of quality are Varsity Schwinn road bikes?
Author: admin
I had asked this question earlier, but in my stupidity completely fudged on the details. The ad listed for a Varsity Schwinn Road bike that looks to be from the 90′s. I had originally thought it said vintage. Senior moment.

$125 brand new tires < 2 weeks old
Worth it?
That bike is about 20 years older than you think. It sold new for well under $100, so today it is worth less than that in perfect condition. If they can get $40 for it, they will be doing well. It is solid, but very heavy
